Porto’s motto is “Mui Nobre, Sempre Leal e Invicta” (
Very Noble, Always Loyal and Undefeated) due to the
courage of its inhabitants who bravely fought during t
he civil war of 1832-1834. A dark coloured city,
Porto gently embraces the Douro river which ends its
journey towards the river here. Porto’s beauty is
both overwhelming and powerful.
We propose visiting the finest monuments of the city, with an
obligatory stop-over in the Port Wine cellars where you can
taste some wine.
The visit starts in the traditional Bolhão market.
We will then continue to Avenida dos Aliados, Torre dos
Clérigos and the São Bento train station, where you will
be able to appreciate its beautiful tile panels. Moving
towards Ribeira, we will visit the cathedral (Sé do Porto)
and the baroque church of Santa Clara with River Douro as
background all the way. The last stop in Palácio da Bolsa
was built in 1842. Its architecture will take us on a
journey through time.
We will take the afternoon to visit one of the Port Wine
cellars and go for a walk in Foz do Douro, where the river
meats the ocean.
Enjoy the beautiful landscape that surrounds the river and
savour the local gastronomy on offer. This is a unique
experience at the heart of the North of Portugal.
